We see the primary solution
for zonal architectures to

and that's being done in a
standardized way."
The Speed of Adoption
Differences in the rate of adoption have implications
for designers. Existing vehicle-based protocols,
including the widely used controller area network
(CAN) bus, will require blending with newer devices.
Subsidiary suppliers may update their subassemblies
to enable connections to a zonal structure, forcing
the OEM to prematurely adopt a component. In this
situation, standardized physical infrastructure and
networking devices will be highly advantageous.
Microchip is an existing supplier of legacy systems.
In addition to supporting OEMs with in-use systems,
Microchip provides manufacturers with the products
they need for the transition to zonal architecture and
a road map to the future as those systems evolve.
Microchip has focused on Single Pair Ethernet (SPE)
for automotive applications.
SPE was developed to take Ethernet to the device
level. One of the biggest challenges in factory
automation is how to integrate machinery on the
factory floor with the rest of the enterprise
network. Office equipment uses conventional
