mouser.com/te 13 When connecting LED light engines and driver boards, there is a wide range of choices for connectors. Ideally, the connector chosen for street lighting applications will allow for some modularity without sacrificing robustness and ease of installation. Modularity can be essential for LED streetlight designs, as a given driver board could be used to drive several different LED light engine boards, but each board may be of different sizes and dimensions. To save on multiple designs and board layout/assembly costs, hermaphroditic board-to-board connectors can be used Hermaphroditic connectors can allow for lighting construction that uses numerous boards chained together to be easily assembled without concern of keying or orientation, also easing assembly. Conclusion LED Street lighting is the future of virtually all street lighting applications. From dense metropolitan areas and high traffic tunnels to suburban walkways and rural roadways, LED lights are gradually replacing high-pressure sodium/low-pressure sodium (HPS/ LPS), incandescent, and mercury vapor bulbs worldwide. LED lights' greater efficiency and flexibility are the main factors driving this trend. However, with the additional flexibility and options that come with LED streetlights, including color temperature, light fixture design, dimming, etc., also come other design considerations. The choices of LEDs, LED light engines, drivers, and interconnect can significantly impact the overall cost of the street lighting installation, maintenance costs, and OpEx. ■ LEARN MORE > TE Connectivity LUMAWISE Type Z45 LED Holders LEARN MORE > Lumileds LUXEON MX LED Module
